According to a report by GhanaWeb on Saturday, May 23, 2026, Christian Tetteh Yohuno has revealed details of how a chief allegedly financed the killing of the queen mother of Abamba in Atebubu.
The Inspector General of Police made the disclosure during a media briefing held in Atebubu on May 22, 2026.
According to the police, the queen mother, Nana Serwaa Gyan Kuma, was shot dead inside her residence on February 25, 2026, an incident that reportedly left residents of the community shocked and fearful.
The IGP explained that investigators made a breakthrough in the case following the arrest of robbery suspects in Kasoa.
During police interrogation, one of the suspects identified as Abdul-Razak Ibrahim Langa, also known as “Zack,” allegedly confessed to having information about the murder.
According to police, the suspect claimed he decided to speak because the spirit of the late queen mother had been disturbing him.
Following the confession, investigators reportedly tracked down an alleged gunman identified as Nana Yaw Bediako, who is said to have admitted involvement in the killing.
Police alleged that Bediako later implicated Nana Owusu Sarkofi II, whose real name is Charles Sarkofi Owusu. Investigators claim the chief allegedly paid or promised to pay GH¢50,000 for the queen mother to be killed.
Authorities also arrested another suspect identified as Ishaku Alhassan, also known as “Sule Yagani,” who is currently serving a prison sentence at Nsawam Prison but is said to have links to the case.
Two additional suspects were also arrested, including Emmanuel Agyeman Darko and a driver identified as Bukari Amadu.
The IGP assured residents of Atebubu that police operations would continue until peace and security are fully restored in the area.
The case has generated widespread reactions across Ghana because it involves allegations against traditional leaders, who are generally regarded as custodians and protectors of their communities.
