Political analyst and Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussah Dankwah, has stated that Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson is positioning himself strongly as a potential flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on GHOne TV on Thursday May 21, 2026, Dankwah said Forson's consistent performance in polls makes it increasingly hard to overlook him when the party eventually decides on its flagbearer candidate.
"It will be difficult for Finance Minister Ato Forson not to be NDC's 2028 flagbearer if he keeps performing well in our polls," Dankwah said.
The analyst's comments reflect a growing conversation within political circles about succession within the NDC. Forson, who currently serves as Finance Minister, has been gaining visibility both in government and among the party's grassroots supporters.
His work at the Finance Ministry appears to be resonating with a section of the electorate, which is translating into favorable poll numbers according to Dankwah's outfit.
Dankwah did not mince words. His statement is a straightforward observation — that if the current trend continues, the party will find it politically costly to sideline Forson when flagbearer elections come around.
It is worth noting that 2028 is still some years away, and the NDC's internal processes will ultimately determine who flies the party's flag.
Several other figures within the party may also declare interest before that time. However, Dankwah's assessment suggests that Forson currently holds an advantage based on available data.
For now, Ato Forson remains focused on his duties as Finance Minister. But the political conversation around his future within the party has clearly begun, and analysts like Dankwah are watching closely.
