GhanaWeb reports that Sarah Adwoa Safo, former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya and former Minister for Gender, has accused ex-President Nana Akufo-Addo of obstructing her anti-corruption efforts within the Ghana School Feeding Programme.
During an appearance on Movement TV, Safo claimed that corruption within the initiative was widespread and challenged former officials to dispute her allegations. She added that she was ready to provide more evidence if necessary.
She revealed that the President had assigned her to investigate the School Feeding Secretariat, but after submitting her report, she was allegedly told to disregard her findings.
Safo said the President later denied authorizing the investigation, which she believes may have been influenced by powerful individuals behind the scenes.
The former minister also accused the late National Coordinator, Gertrude Quashigah, of masterminding fraudulent activities aimed at misusing funds, including the creation of non-existent schools.
She stated that she refused to cooperate with the alleged scheme and was warned about influential figures connected to it.
According to Safo, the opposition and criticism she encountered within government stemmed from her decision to expose the alleged misconduct.
She noted that she initially chose to remain silent to prevent political controversy but now feels compelled to speak out in order to defend her integrity.
Safo further claimed that Quashigah regularly failed to attend key meetings and relied on her close connections with the presidency to escape scrutiny and responsibility.
