A 26-year-old TikTok content creator identified as Mahama Aminat, popularly known on social media as “Bawumia Ba,” has been arrested by the Police Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team at Sekyere Zongo over allegations of insulting the President and making inciting and threatening remarks in a series of viral videos.
According to police sources, the suspect was picked up following weeks of monitoring her online activities, where she allegedly posted multiple videos that contained abusive language directed at the Presidency, as well as statements authorities described as capable of inciting public disorder.
The arrest was carried out at Sekyere Zongo after intelligence reportedly traced her location. Officers of the cyber enforcement unit moved in and took her into custody without resistance.
She is currently assisting investigators as part of ongoing cybercrime and public order investigations.
Security officials indicated that the suspect’s videos had gained significant traction on TikTok, attracting widespread attention and mixed reactions from the public.
While some viewers dismissed the content as political expression, others raised concerns about the tone and nature of the statements, prompting formal complaints to security agencies.
Authorities allege that some of the remarks made in the videos crossed the line into threats and incitement, which necessitated police intervention under laws governing cybercrime and communication offenses.
The suspect is expected to be processed further and possibly arraigned in court as investigations continue. Police have also indicated that digital evidence, including video recordings and account activity, has been preserved for prosecution purposes.
The development has sparked debate on social media about freedom of expression versus responsible online conduct.
Some commentators argue that young content creators are increasingly being monitored too strictly, while others maintain that online speech must still comply with national laws and should not endanger public peace.
