Sammy Gyamfi would "turn country upside down" if NPP appointee held similar funeral- P.K Sarpong

P.K. Sarpong, a popular writer with sympathies for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized National Democratic Congress National (NDC) Communications Officer Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi over the funeral of his father-in-law held over the weekend in Kumasi.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, May 31, 2026, Mr. Sarpong said Mr. Gyamfi would have led protests if a similar funeral were held by an under-40 appointee of former President Nana Akufo-Addo with little professional history.

“Someone like Sammy Gyamfi would lead gullible foot soldiers in turning the country upside down with press conferences and insults,” he stated. Mr. Sarpong argued that Mr. Gyamfi’s reaction would have been swift and created disaffection for the government.

The writer further questioned what he described as political hypocrisy in current reactions to the funeral.

He claimed that “neutrals”, think tanks, and the media would have condemned the government immediately if the event had occurred under the previous NPP administration.

“Fake neutrals, stomach-direction commentators, non-thinking tanks, and the morally bankrupt media would also join the chorus sung by Sammy Gyamfi and the NDC,” Mr. Sarpong added.

He said it is hypocrisy for voices that were vocal against similar issues under the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration to suddenly go mute over how Sammy Gyamfi’s father-in-law’s final funeral rites were conducted.

The funeral has generated significant public interest on social media platforms. Leading members of the opposition NPP, including Awal Mohammed and P.K Sarpong, have been critical of what they describe as the display of opulence by the CEO of Goldbod.
